Madagascar's Odd And Awesome Animals
The lemur is one of the most famous animals when some one thinks of Madagascar. It is recognized by the long furry tail with black rings around it. It is a very spunky animal and it is usually accompanied by a large groups of other lemurs.
The fossa is one of the biggest predators on the island of Madagascar. It a cat-like carnivorous animal related to the mongoose. It can be compared to a cougar. Adults at full grown can be about 2 1/2 ft long and can weigh about 15 pounds.
This little guy is a leaf tailed gecko. Its Latin name is Uroplatus fimbriatus. It can grow to 12 inches long. One of the coolest things about it is that it will store water in its large tail, and like most gecko's it does not have eyelids so it must use its tongue to keep its eye moist by liking them.
The satanic leaf tailed gecko (right) is one of the smallest of twelve species of gecko. It is nocturnal and can only be found in undisturbed forests forest that have not been logged out. Interestingly it has one of the largest amounts of teeth.
